LAKE TRAVERSE

Lake Traverse Bordering MN and SD

Lake Traverse is the 12th largest in the state of Minnesota, with the surface area of 11,600 acres.  The maximum depth is 15 feet with an average depth of 12 feet.  Lake Traverse is 16.5 miles long with an average width of 1.75 miles.  Lake Traverse Borders South Dakota and Minnesota.

The Minnesota department of Natural Resources and the South Dakota Game & Fish Dept. cooperatively manage the fish populations of Lake Traverse.  Together the lake is well stocked with northerns, walleyes, blue gills, and black crappies.  Presently, the lake contains over 30 species of fish including northerns, bullheads, catfish, sunfish, largemouth bass, silver bass, rock bass, yellow perch and numerous minnows and suckers.

Located on the Continental Divide, the Spring and Fall migrations of the Central and Mississppi Flyways overlap in the Traverse area creating a paradise for birding and hunting.

Lake Traverse over the years has been very undeveloped and over the past couple years there has been a lot of new developing happening.  There are a couple new developments now happening on the Minnesota side of the lake and a new one coming the Spring of 2008 on the SD side.  Be sure to come and explore the beauty of Lake Traverse.  Lake Traverse would be a great area to raise a family or just retire and enjoy the serenity that this area has to offer.
